Seafarers UK is a charity that helps people from the Royal Navy, Merchant Navy and fishing fleets, and their families, in times of need.
Personnel in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines protect merchant shipping from an increasing number of pirate attacks whilst making a sizeable contribution to operations in Afghanistan. For nearly 100 years, Seafarers UK has been championing the cause of seafarers and their families, and ensuring that they receive all the help and support they need, both at sea and when they return to shore. We cannot do this without the generous support of the public. Working at sea is one of the most dangerous occupations and many seafarers are killed or injured every year. The challenges for seafarers and their families do not end when they return to shore. They are particularly prone to poverty, unemployment, post traumatic stress disorder and bereavement, all of which will have a life long impact.Seafarers UK will always be here to help. We give out over £2 million a year in grants to help our nation's seafarers and the need continues to grow. Please help us continue our vital work. Why Choose us? Seafarers play a vital role in our everyday lives, but often they are overlooked and forgotten, despite the huge sacrifices they make and the harsh conditions in which they work.Over 95% of all UK trade is carried by sea, and seafarers often face serious dangers to bring fuel for our cars, food for our supermarket shelves and other vital everyday goods which we all take for granted.
